Firearms Purchaser Identification Card / Permit to Purchase a Handgun

Applications for a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Permit to Purchase a Handgun must be submitted electronically through the New Jersey State Police Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS).

When completing your application, please ensure you enter the correct ORI number:

Applicants who reside outside Flemington Borough must apply through the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over their residence.

References

Applicants must provide the required references when completing the FARS application. References will receive an email containing a questionnaire that must be completed before the application can be finalized.

Applicants are encouraged to confirm that their references received and completed the questionnaire.

Fingerprinting

First-time firearms applicants must complete fingerprinting through IdentoGO.

Fingerprinting instructions are provided by FARS after the application is submitted and are also included in the applicant's confirmation email.

Applicants should retain their:

• FARS Confirmation Number
• Contributor Case Number
• ORI Number

These numbers may be required when scheduling a fingerprinting appointment.

Application Fees

Any required State fees are collected through the FARS application system.

Additional fees required by the Flemington Borough Police Department must be paid before the application can be completed.
